November 2016
Welcome to the latest edition of Hobsons Bay Business e-Works
Before we get into the world of business, firstly an introduction to our new Council. On Wednesday 2 November Hobsons Bay City Council's new Council was announced, with seven Councillors elected for the four year term. Hobsons Bay is represented across three wards, Cherry Lake, The Strand and Wetlands. The new Mayor will be elected and announced on Friday 11 November.

This month we are pleased to share with you the upcoming Art & Industry Festival, a new festival event for the City of Hobsons Bay that takes place across the city 18-27 November. With the tagline of Art & Industry being to ‘celebrate our past and design our future’, the festival will celebrate and investigate the ever-changing industrial and manufacturing heartland of Australia based in the Melbourne’s western suburbs. As part of the program, we are hosting an industry speed networking session at The Substation, with a stunning photographic exhibition commissioned by Toyota as our backdrop.  The event will be held on Wednesday 23rd November and is sure to be a great start to the day. It's aimed for businesses and industry professionals, further details below. We hope to see you there!

The festival received fantastic coverage in this weekend's edition of The Age, to view the article click here . International Perspective
Hobsons Bay City Council director Bill Millard recently took a side trip during overseas leave to attend and speak at the International Economic Development Council, (IEDC) conference in Cleveland Ohio.  While Cleveland might best be known as home to the NBL champs the Cleveland Cavaliers, it is also a city that has suffered through a critical slump in manufacturing and is trying to reinvent itself.  Perhaps the major driver of reinvention has been the delivery of public projects in the city centre, including a brilliant convention centre, foreshore renewal, public square development and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. New Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre
The Swinburne University of Technology has partnered with Shandong University Weihai (SDUW), Weihai Economic and Technological Development Zone (WZ) and the Australian Education and Management Group (AEMG) to establish a joint research centre in advanced manufacturing. The establishment of the joint centre was formally announced by the premier of Victoria, Mr Daniel Andrews, during his recent trip to Beijing in September.
