Meet Kate, the manager behind Lavanya Day Spa & Skin Hub, a local beauty day spa where slowing down, breathing deeply and being kind to yourself is part of every visit. With a genuine love for her clients, her team and the Williamstown community, Kate helps create a space where self-care feels personal, thoughtful and truly special.

Tell us a bit about Lavanya - where's the name from?
Lavanya is a Sanskrit word that describes a feeling of beauty that comes from within. It’s not just about how you look, but how you feel - calm, confident, and at ease in yourself. That meaning sits at the heart of everything we’ve created here. This space has been thoughtfully designed to feel nurturing and restorative, allowing you to slow down, relax, and reconnect with your inner sense of beauty in a way that feels personal and special. Our motto at Lavanya is “Be kind to yourself,” and it’s something you feel from the moment you walk through the door. It’s a value we truly live by. For us, it’s about taking time to breathe, slow down, and remember that while we’re often so kind to others, we can sometimes forget to offer that same kindness to ourselves.

What do you love most about running this business?
What I love most is the people - our clients, our team, and the community around us. We have clients who’ve been coming in for years, and over time they really do start to feel like family. You get to know them, share conversations, and build genuine connections. I also love when local residents walk past, pop in, and want to learn more about what we do - it makes the space feel truly part of the neighbourhood. And of course, the team I work with means so much to me. That’s one of the biggest highlights. After more than 20 years in the industry, I really enjoy mentoring, inspiring, and supporting my staff to be the best they can be, not just with our clients, but in life as well.

How does your business support other local businesses and/or the local community?
Supporting our local community is really important to us. We regularly donate vouchers to local businesses, schools, and organisations to help with fundraising raffles and events. It’s our way of giving back and supporting the causes that matter locally, while also sharing a little of what we do. On average, we donate around 50–60 vouchers each year, and it’s something we’re really proud to continue doing.

What makes Lavanya's treatments different?
Every treatment at Lavanya begins with a beautiful foot soak, so you can start unwinding from the moment you arrive. We really focus on creating a full experience, often going beyond what clients expect. All of our staff have over 10 years’ experience in the industry, so when you come in for a treatment you know you’re getting expert care from a team who truly knows what they’re doing. Our clients feel like family to us, and we treat them that way, always taking the time to add those extra thoughtful touches. For example, anyone who comes in for a treatment on their birthday is treated to a delicious cupcake from The Cupcake Queen here in Willy - they’re the best!

What's your favourite treatment?
I’d have to say my favourite treatments are our seasonal ones. They’re a great combination of different modalities all rolled into one, and they offer amazing value. I also really love the Fire & Ice facial - it’s a bit spicy on the skin, but the results are incredible. And the Signature Facelift Peel is another favourite of mine.

Where do you like to eat?
Lion Dance is my go-to. My partner and I eat there often or grab takeaway. I also really enjoy the food at Friends on Pho - it's delicious. My secret indulgence (which I have to mention) is the Belgian hot chocolate from Cocoa Latte - it's the best. If they ever close down, I would be very upset!

Where would we find you when you're out and about?
You’ll usually find me out and about enjoying everything Williamstown has to offer. I love walking around the streets, browsing the shops, and soaking up the local atmosphere. I’ve also recently started running, so you might spot me slowly running along the beach. And on Sundays, you’ll often find me at the farmers market - just wandering, exploring, and enjoying the community.

What would you like to get for Valentines Day?
I’m a simple Valentine’s Day girl. I’m a sucker for champagne, flowers and chocolate but honestly, a beautiful card with a thoughtful message from the heart is more than enough for me. I’d be very happy with that.
